[Economics] European Union opens call for financial support for more than $300,000 for projects with sustainable practices in Latin America

According to the EU, projects in Latin America must support the transition to a low-carbon and efficient economy in the use of resources.

Applicants must be non-profit business intermediaries representing small and medium-sized enterprises and research centers or research centers focused on innovation, digitalization and the transition to the green economy.

 

The Al-Invest Verde program of the European Union (EU) opened the call to promote sustainable growth and job creation in Latin America.

The initiative will provide initial financial support of 300,000 euros, that is, just over 320,000 dollars.

According to the EU, projects in Latin America must support the transition to a low-carbon and efficient economy in the use of resources.

Each proposal must be presented in association or consortium, made up of an institution from Latin America and another from the European Union. "This approach will provide the means to transfer sustainable technical expertise from the EU, share lessons learned and best available techniques," the statement said.

Applicants must be non-profit business intermediaries representing small and medium-sized enterprises and research centers or research centers focused on innovation, digitalization and the transition to the green economy.

The countries that will be able to participate will be from the whole of the European Union, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

 

The call is part of component 1 of the AL-Invest Verde Program, which is designed to get SMEs to adopt products, processes and services that are less polluting and more efficient in the use of resources.

A special committee will evaluate all applications and the technical and financial capacity of the applicant institutions.

Between September and October 2022 the award decisions will be made public. The winning projects will be executed in two years.

“The priorities that will be addressed in this call are the sustainable value chains in the agri-food industry and the planned sectors of activity that must be linked to the priorities of the European Union on the Green Deal, the Action Plan for the Circular Economy, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the EU Regulation on Deforestation and the SME Strategy for a Sustainable and Digital Europe”, says the letter.
