The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull team), the last world champion, won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the second of the 2022 Formula One World Championship, which was held this Sunday, with artificial light, on the Jeddah street circuit, where the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who was second, maintained the leadership of the contest. Verstappen, 24, added his twenty-first victory in F1, finishing ahead of Leclerc -author of the fastest lap- and the other Ferrari, that of the Spanish Carlos Sainz, who, by finishing third, added his second podium in so far this season, the eighth since he has raced in F1 and the sixth since he has done it for the Scuderia. The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) was fourth in a race in which the other Spaniard, the Asturian double world champion Fernando Alonso (Alpine) abandoned, due to an engine problem, with 14 laps to go. Englishman George Rusell's Mercedes finished fifth, ahead of Frenchman Esteban Ocon's Alpine and Englishman Lando Norris's McLaren, who finished seventh this day on the shores of the Red Sea. Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) finished the second race of the year in eighth position, one place ahead of Dane Kevin Magnussen (Haas). His two teammates, the Japanese Yuki Tusnoda -due to an engine failure- and the German Mick Schumacher, as a preventive measure after his accident on Saturday, did not start in a race in which, instead of twenty drivers, participation, for that reason, 18. Also scoring, finishing tenth, was seven-time English world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who after being eliminated in Q1 (the first qualifying round) started fifteenth. The third race of the year, the Australian Grand Prix, will be held on April 10 at the Albert Park semi-urban circuit in Melbourne.
