The organization gathered last week for its annual general meeting and safety awards to ratify a new leader, board of directors and pass out some safety awards. "Our construction sector remains strong," said outgoing president Shawn Tyson in a March 10 news release. "Despite several challenges brought on by the pandemic and supply chain challenges, Timmins businesses are still completing projects and are in high demand." The association saw new members come aboard and the launch of our new brand with new digital capabilities. "Overall, the TCA had an excellent year, and as we look to introduce new initiatives in support of development in Timmins, my departing words to Jamie Clarke would be that I wish him luck and that he's well-positioned to continue leading our association," added Tyson. Bill Ferreira, executive director of BuildForce Canada, delivered a virtual overview of the Northern Ontario construction labour markets from 2022 to 2027. He noted that overall, residential constructions and investment would remain driven by renovations, with new home constructions making up a smaller share, but the future of construction in the region is strong. However, total employment declines continue to impact the industry.
