[Auto] Volkswagen ID. Buzz, the electric Combi is already a reality

Five years after the presentation of the ID. Buzz concept, and after seeing it being tested in the snow, Volkswagen presents the mass-produced version of the electric Combi, finally named ID. Buzz. Although it is a new member of the ID. electric family, it has the particularity of being the first commercial vehicle in the range.

Together with the objective of increasing the supply of electric vehicles, with the ID. Buzz, the German brand, seeks to replicate the values it created with the first generation Combi, which came to light in the 1950s and was very well received by young audiences.

 

 

The ID. Buzz is built by the brand's Commercial Vehicles division (Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles) in Hannover. From its construction, we can highlight the following:

    It is built on Volkswagen Group's MEB (Modular Electric Drive) platform.
    It allows further evolutionary development of your software and technology.
    Available as a passenger or cargo vehicle

 

Speaking specifically of the I.D. Charging Buzz, features a 77 kWh battery, which provides power to a 150 kW (201 hp) electric motor. As with the iconic combustion Combi, the power is transferred to the asphalt through the rear axle. What's more:

    Because the battery is lightweight and located on the floor of the vehicle, the vehicle has good weight distribution and a low center of gravity
    Through a DC (direct current) fast charging station, the battery is recharged from 5 to 80% in about 30 minutes
    By having bidirectional charging, it can offer energy, such as to feed a home network

 

 

Regarding its dimensions, we can point out that the VW ID. Buzz features the following numbers:

     The length of both versions is 4,712 mm.
     Wheelbase: 2,988mm
     If we compare it with the total length, it is very long
     Height: between 1,937 mm and 1,938 mm
     Width: 1,985mm.
     Turning radius: 11.1 meters (pretty small)
     By having bidirectional charging, it can offer energy, such as to feed a home network

 

In addition to standing out for its peculiar and aerodynamic (Cd 0.29) design, the ID. Buzz has an extremely spacious and minimalist interior space:

     Passenger version: five people have ample space to travel and also for their luggage (1,121 liters of cargo capacity)
     If the second row of seats is folded, the load capacity increases to 2,205 liters.
     Ahead can have two or three seats, depending on what its owner wants
     Cargo version: Presents a fixed bulkhead, which separates the front seats from the cargo space, which is 3,900 litres.
