#Wittels- Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 Yamaha continues on the electric path but looking for a solution to the problem of autonomy: produce hybrid motorcycles that have a gasoline engine Last week, Yamaha presented electrical news. Under the slogan Yamaha Switch On, the brand showed us electric bicycles and scooters, including one whose name we still do not know but it would correspond to a 125 cc scooter. Now, the brand is bringing to light three new hybrid model designs that it has already patented in 2020. But not only Yamaha works on the hybridization of motorcycles. Kawasaki has also been working for some time to be able to offer hybrid models, and an example of this is the official prototype that it presented in 2021 taking the Kawasaki Ninja as a base. In fact, the brand's plan is to offer a completely hybrid and electric catalog in the year 2035. Yamaha, which was a pioneer in this field by presenting the Gen-Ryu and HV-01 in 2005, seeks to follow this same line and be able to offer hybrid engines very soon. Back in 2009 we discovered that they were able to bring this technology to the streets with the HV-X, a hybrid motorcycle presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in Japan that carried the engine of a Majesty 250 on a TMAX 500 chassis. yamaha hybrid In the new designs that Yamaha is working on, we can see that its propulsion system is electric, but that it uses a small gasoline engine as a range generator to recharge the batteries. These three designs would correspond to a 125 scooter model, a maxi-scooter and a motorcycle. In the case of the small scooter, we find the electric motor under the swingarm, the battery under the seat and the gasoline engine in the lower part of the frame. In the case of the maxi-scooter model, similar to a TMAX, we find the gasoline engine ahead of the electric one between the rider's legs, and a conventional rear transmission. Finally, in the case of the motorcycle, we find an electric powertrain where the engine and transmission normally go, and the gasoline engine behind the steering head. Although we still do not know when the hybrid models of Yamaha will begin to appear, the truth is that due to the path that the brand is taking, it may be revealed very soon.
