France took the lead this Friday 2-0 against Ecuador in their Davis Cup qualifying series. Arthur Rinderknech (number 59 in the ATP) beat Guayaquil's Emilio Gómez (144) 6-2 and 7-5 earlier this day, in the first match of the key in the city of Pau (southwest). The local tennis player broke at the start, and then again against Gómez, to take advantage (6-2). Although the tricolor improved seriously for the second set, even having chances of crucial points, Rinderknech came out well and settled the match (7-5) in just over an hour and a half. Gómez opens the Davis Cup series for Ecuador against France The duels between the French, top seeds, and the tricolors take place in Pau, Friday and Saturday. Mannarino vs Quiroz In the second turn of this day Roberto Quiroz and Adrian Mannarino met (from approximately 11:20), with victory for the locals (6-4, 4-6 and 6-1), the second point for France. The Ecuadorian (number 381 in the ATP) was at the height of the local tennis player (58) in the first set. The man from Guayaquil went bankrupt, but received an immediate response. Finally the French broke to win (6-4) in about 40 minutes. The second set featured a closer contest. The fifth game was extraordinary, with Quiroz having opportunities to break, but Mannarino held on and came out unscathed. However, the tricolor will perfect the break later to get 4-5 and serve later to even the match (4-6). In the deciding set, the Frenchman broke to make it 2-0, held the lead and struck again for 4-0. There was not enough reaction from the tricolor (6-1). Davis Cup: Spain, one step away from the finals France thus advances 2-0 against Ecuador in search of qualifying for the finals of the competition. The series will continue on Saturday with the doubles match (Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo for Ecuador) and, eventually, the other two singles duels.
