  • Other Information: Marshall Bruce Mathers III, better known by his stage name Eminem (October 17, 1972), is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer and actor. He gained rapid po[CENSORED]rity in 1999 with the release of The Slim Shady LP, which won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album of the Year. His next work, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the best-selling solo album in US history. This fact made him known all over the world, and helped to promote his label, Shady Records, and his group, D12.
  • The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, The Eminem Show, also won Grammy Awards, making him the first artist to win Best Rap Album of the Year three times in a row. In 2003, he won the Oscar for best original song with "Lose Yourself", which was featured in his semi-biographical film, 8 Mile. "Lose Yourself" would go on to become the longest-running No. 1 single on the hip hop charts. In 2004, rumors about the end of his career were announced after the release of the Encore album, which ended with the announcement of Relapse, officially released on May 15, 2009. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Eminem is the artist who most sold in the decade in the United States and is currently in the 30th position of record sales in the history of the country according to the RIAA ranking, and in the world has about 115 million albums sold, making him one of the record-selling artists of disks. In 2010, he released Recovery, which featured the single "Love the Way You Lie", which was a huge commercial success. Recovery became Eminem's sixth consecutive album to debut at number one on the US charts. At first, the album spent five consecutive weeks at the top, later returning for another two, and adding seven weeks at number one in total.
  • Eminem was chosen 79th on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list. In a similar list, he was ranked 82nd by Rolling Stone magazine. Including the work with D12, Eminem accumulates 9 albums at the top of the Billboard Top 200, being 7 solo (6 studio, 1 compilation) and 2 with D12. He has 13 number one singles worldwide. Such success saw Eminem be recognized by Billboard as the Artist of the Decade.[13] According to the same Billboard, the rapper had two of the five best-selling albums between 2000 and 2009. Eminem has also sold over 17 million downloads of his songs in the United States alone. In 2010, MTV ranked Eminem the seventh greatest icon in pop music history. In 2009, Eminem was elected, by po[CENSORED]r vote, the best rapper of all time by Vibe magazine, beating Tupac in the final. Eminem's songwriting was controversial; some critics considered his lyrics to be misogynistic and homophobic, with characteristics of hate speech. In 2006, ABC News named him the "Most Controversial Musician of the New Millennium".
