As technology advances, the mobility sector in cities evolves. Increasingly innovative prototypes that try to solve the needs that a common citizen may have in their day to day. Now, versatility and electrification are two features that fit these needs and the Poimo electric motorcycle is an ingenious solution.

 

Developed by a group of researchers from the University of Tokyo and Poimo, a Japanese start-up, it is an electric motorcycle that inflates and can be carried in a bag. The name comes from Portable and Inflatable MObility, according to its acronym in English, and it is an electric motorcycle concept that seeks to promote the use of replaceable parts.

This radical proposal for mobility is an evolution of a first concept presented in May of last year which has been perfected by using 3D design to improve the driver's posture. Now it is fully functional and the most striking thing is that each and every one of its parts can be inflated once the customer receives them at home deflated.

The motorcycle is made up of seven modules that include the wheels, an electric motor and a battery. It is made of plastic, so it can be fully customized. This includes the driver's posture, which, through a computer program, can be developed by the Poimo parts so that it is ergonomic and adapts perfectly to the user who will drive it.

In addition, being fully inflatable, the Poimo electric motorcycle is completely portable and can be carried in a bag or backpack, which makes it especially versatile and dynamic. Another advantage of its parts being inflatable is that, in the event of a collision, it would not cause severe damage to pedestrians or other users of public roads.

 

With the same manufacturing system, without changing anything, Poimo offers the possibility of building inflatable wheelchairs at a low price, but perfectly useful. It remains to be seen whether this inflatable electric motorcycle concept moves on to the next phase of production and reaches the commercialization stage, or if it simply remains an innovative prototype.
