The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, expressed this Tuesday his "strong support" for his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in a telephone contact requested by the Venezuelan side.

Through Twitter, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Maduro condemned the destabilizing actions of the United States and the Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) against Russia.

At the same time, the Venezuelan leader stressed the importance of countering the West's disinformation campaign against Moscow.

On February 22, Maduro expressed his full support for Putin, after the Russian leader's decision to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics in eastern Ukraine.

“Venezuela is with Putin, with Russia, and we are going to withdraw more and more. We are going to rest more and more. The peace of Russia is the peace of the world," the head of state said on that occasion.
