This Saturday, the Venezuelan basketball team managed to advance undefeated (4-0) to the second qualifying round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The Creole troop won overwhelmingly against Paraguay with a 48-97 scoreboard at the Obras Sanitarias gym in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In just two minutes of the game, the tricolor quintet had scored eight points against the Guarani, imposing their pace of play from start to finish.
This was the second match played by the Venezuelans in this window towards next year's World Cup, on Friday they beat Argentina 71-58.

In this way, the national team advances as leader of group "A" and takes a step to the next round.

Mastery from start to finish
The criollos played quickly from the start, to win the first quarter with a score of 9-21.

The hierarchy of Venezuela continued in the next section, increasing the advantage that gave them the partial victory 22-52 at half time of the duel.

At the beginning of the second half, the Paraguayans tried to put up resistance, but nothing worried for the defense led by Fernando Duró. The third quarter ended 32-73, favorable for our team.

At the close of the duel, the coach rested his starters to give more time to the bench and Vinotinto did not slow down and conquer the laurel 48-97 and advance to the next phase.

This is the highest score of the team in its last 10 games, the six of the Americup qualifier (played between 2020 and 2021) and the four that are on the way to the World Cup.

unstoppable offensive
Jhornan Zamora was Venezuela's offensive spark plug, scoring 24 points, grabbing three rebounds, handing out an assist and stealing a ball.

Michael Carrera had an outstanding contribution coming off the bench with 15 accountants and 2 boards. Three other national players finished with double digits: Pedro Chourio (13), David Cubillán (13) and Yohanner Sifontes (10).

For their part, Fernando Dose and Luis Ljubetich were the best for Paraguay, registering 11 points each.

“We are a team that knows that every day, whatever the team, we must go out with greater intensity and it is something that we have shown in recent years,” said Zamora.

next round
Two more matches remain for the national team in this group A, they must face Argentina and Paraguay in what will be the third qualifying window, scheduled to take place between June 27 and July 5.

The Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) bets that these games will be held in the country.

Now with the pass to the next phase, Venezuela will face Canada, the Dominican Republic and most likely the third team to advance will be the Bahamas, which has just beaten the Virgin Islands.

That round will start next August.
