Alexis González arrived in Ecuador 6 years ago. At that time, at the Bolivarian Games in Peru, he received the proposal to come to the country to promote the practice of Beach Tennis.

He tells us that he has been teaching this sport for 12 years and is currently a 'coach' of the Ecuador Selective of Beach Tennis.

He works at the Guayaquil Tennis Club where he spends most of his time. At the same time, his Beach Tennis academy was formed, with which he has promoted several events to promote this sport in Galapagos, and now in Salinas, with the Sport Fest that will take place this weekend.

Alexis tells us more details.

What is the Sport Fest about?
— The Open Festival of Beach Tennis and Beach Volley, which will take place from February 26 to 28 in Salinas, aims to raise awareness of these beach sports, led by teachers who are also professional players and They have a lot to teach. We want to open these sports to new audiences.

How is Beach Tennis projected in the country?
—It advances quickly and is very well received, not only on the Coast, but even in the Sierra, where it causes a lot of curiosity. We have had requests to go to sports clinics (or exhibitions) in Ambato and Cuenca, which have sand courts where this sport can be played without any problem.

Our vision is to visit all the cities and all the beaches in the country as we have started to do, so that people know what this sport is about and its players, many of whom are already in the Top 100 of the ITF Ranking.

What categories are currently handled?

—We have professional players, who are fully dedicated to this sport, and players who also have other activities. We have a category for men and women, the Sub 18 where they are already practically playing with the adults, and a new group is expected to come, young people of 11 and 14 years old, who are about to enter the category 16 or more.

Last year we participated in four national tournaments and through the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation we were part of the Beach Tennis World Cup in October 2021

What level of difficulty is this sport?
— The greatest advantage of this sport is that they practice it from scratch, from all ages. I really like giving classes at the beginner level because people get hooked quickly and can advance to the next level in a short time. This is because it is such a simple technique that it can be practiced by people who have never even played sports.

At an advanced level, if you are looking to have competitions with tall, fast and strong players, we train and help each other with a lot of physical preparation. Also the teachers train very hard and adapt according to the competition.

What surprises does the Sport Fest in Salinas hold for us?
—We want to reach the general public with Beach Tennis and Beach Volleyball. We are going to do a demonstration with a pro game, so that the public can see the talent of the boys.

In addition, we will give some classes or 'clinics' with tips and strategies applicable to any level. We even stayed playing with them.

Is there any recommendation to attendees?
— We want to invite everyone to attend and meet the players, in addition to learning about this trend that has transformed many lives. Those who wish to participate only need to go with comfortable clothes, sports, and implements to protect themselves from the sun.

We remind you to enjoy the event and the music, which can never be missed in this beach environment. In any festival, class or world practice, music is always present.
