(Auto) Ford patents an idea to take care of pets in the car

Taking a look at what trademarks register in patent offices allows us to anticipate future technologies or at least the questions that trademarks have in mind, with solutions for different problems. In this case, we have a development presented by Ford in October 2018 and published in February 2022 that details the operation of a system that activates the "Pet Mode".

What is Pet Mode about?

It's actually a relatively simple technology, as with the push of a button on the car's remote control, we can keep the cabin temperature under control by partially lowering one or more windows, opening the sunroof, or both. The climate control system can also be turned on and adjusted, while the window switches and door handles are disabled so they cannot be operated from the inside.

The interesting thing about this system is that it leverages technologies that already existed in cars a long time ago, but now they are coordinated to achieve a safe and comfortable environment for our favorite animal.

In addition to this "Pet Mode", the patent details other features to be activated from the keys, such as the possibility of opening a door remotely to allow your dog to get in and out of the car and a function that folds one or more seats to give you more space. You can even select the type of music you want the radio to play when Pet Mode is on.

Another of the details that can be seen in the patent is a hydration system, so we could assume that here a system with a water container would be activated so that the animal can use it. If they put a "sanitary stones" mode I even encourage myself to go out for a walk with the cat.

Although the patents detail the use of this system from the keys, it could also be activated through an app on the smartphone, which would even allow it to be much more customizable.

Ford did not give details about the production of this system, and as we usually say, the fact that there is a patent does not guarantee that the invention will reach the real world, since they could simply be reserving the idea and the name (“Pet Mode”). Still, I think it's too good an idea to pass up.
