After holding a telephone conversation this Sunday, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, announced that a meeting "at the highest level" is being prepared with the aim of "defining a new order of peace and security in Europe," reported the Elysée Palace.

It is reported that such a meeting would — "if the conditions are right" — include the participation of all interested parties, including representatives of European countries and their allies, as well as Russia and Ukraine.
At the same time, from Paris they stressed the need to achieve a "diplomatic solution" to the growing crisis around Ukraine. "The two heads of state firmly committed to take all appropriate actions to prevent escalation, mitigate risk and maintain peace," the statement read.

In this context, the leaders also agreed to resume work within the framework of the Normandy format, as well as to hold a meeting of the trilateral contact group between the representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). in order to achieve a ceasefire.

With this objective, a meeting will also be held in the coming days between the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

During the conversation, the Russian president again stressed that "Kiev is only faking the negotiation process, stubbornly refusing to implement the Minsk agreements and the agreements reached in the Normandy format." At the same time, he denounced the militarization of the neighboring country by the NATO countries which, according to the Russian president, "encourage Kiev" to resolve the situation in Donbass by military means.

Tensions in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine have sharply escalated in recent days. This Friday, the leaders of the self-proclaimed Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk decreed the massive evacuation of the civilian po[CENSORED]tion to Russia in fear of a possible offensive by Kiev. According to Donetsk leader Denis Pushilin, the situation is critical and Kiev can launch a large-scale offensive against Donbass at any time.

The observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) registered this Friday in Donbass 1,566 violations of the ceasefire, including 1,413 explosions.
