Ecuador and Peru have agreed to reopen the southern border from this Friday, February 18, 2022, at 09:00, in the cities of Huaquillas (El Oro province) and Macará (Loja province). The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will take the necessary measures so that the border reactivation develops normally. As of that date, any person who enters Ecuador by land must comply with the established guidelines: Every person over 3 years of age must present a RT-PCR test (molecular biology) or a valid vaccination card/certificate with at least 14 days before entering the country with a complete schedule. Any person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and who continues to obtain a positive result in the RT-PCR test after one month may present a medical certificate issued in the country of origin that guarantees their health status if they are not in the of contagion. Those who present symptoms will receive attention from the MSP. Children under 3 years of age and crew members do not present RT-PCR proof or vaccination card. The traveler who presents symptoms will be considered a suspected case. Presentation of the Traveler's Health Declaration digitally at the point of entry into the country. This applies to any person who enters for more than one day or an Ecuadorian resident who has been outside the country for more than 72 hours. The opening of the border will be progressive with permanent surveillance at the entry points. The border crossing will be open from Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 17:00. This will allow to reactivate the economy and tourism in Ecuador. If there is a "suspicious case", a rapid impression test (nasopharyngeal swab) will be carried out and, if positive, the citizen must go into isolation for 10 days after the sample is taken.
