"In an irregular and clandestine judicial auction," said a press release from the newspaper, "ownership of the headquarters of El Nacional and the lots of land on which it is built was directly awarded to Diosdado Cabello Rondón," number two of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). In a dialogue with Eduardo Feinmann for Radio Mitre, the director of the newspaper, Miguel Henrique Otero, explained the case and referred to the attacks on the independent press in the Caribbean country. And he continued: “There is no independent newspaper that can be printed in Venezuela. What there are are web platforms that they block. The persecution of the media began in Chavez's second year, 20 years ago. Venezuela is a dull country for independent news.” Then he referred to the case of Infobae, a website that is blocked in Venezuela. “Infobae is blocked. And they discretionally block El Nacional. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. When there is a hot topic for them, they block it. There are pages that are permanently blocked, as is the case with Infobae”, he recalled. https://www.infobae.com/america/venezuela/2022/02/08/miguel-henrique-otero-director-de-el-nacional-venezuela-es-un-pais-apagado-para-los-noticias-independientes/
