"These principles imply that the characteristics, processes, life cycles, structures, functions, differentiating evolutionary processes of each species, as well as their interaction, must be observed," reads a statement.

Once the issue was analyzed, the Constitutional Court ordered the Ministry of the Environment and the National Assembly, with the joint participation of the Ombudsman, to adapt their regulations to the standards of this ruling. The institutions will have two years to debate and approve a law that protects animals.

 

"Especially, with regard to the seizure of animals, the minimum parameters that their caregivers must meet, and the express recognition of the rights and principles related to the protection of animals as subjects of rights."
