#CeLTiXxX Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Within the framework of the talks taking place in Vienna, Austria, to resume the Nuclear Agreement, the Government of the United States (USA) lifted some of the coercive measures imposed on Iran. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, signed several exemptions from the sanctions applied against Iran and linked to activities of this country's nuclear program, reversing the decision of former President Donald Trump during his administration. A senior official, quoted by the AFP agency, indicated that this action represents an essential step "to achieve rapid compliance by Iran" of its commitments, since the Government of that nation assured on several occasions that "if the US lifts the cruel sanctions, it is possible to revive the agreement of 2015”. For its part, the AP agency cited a fragment of a notice sent by the US State Department to Congress to announce the decision. "The waiver regarding these activities is designed to facilitate discussions that would help close an agreement on a mutual return to full implementation of the Jcpoa and lay the groundwork for Iran's return to meeting its commitments," the text reads. On January 31, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeid Khatibzade, stated that his country "has submitted in writing its innovative ideas on verification and guarantees to the participants in the Vienna talks, and is waiting for Washington's political decision. Former President Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (PIAC or Jcpoa for its acronym in English) in 2018 and subsequently intensified coercive measures against Iran. https://www.telesurtv.net/news/eeuu-levanta-algunas-medidas-iran-acuerdo-nuclear-viena-20220204-0027.html 1
