Patrick Dorrell, Advisor to the French President for North African and Middle Eastern Affairs, met with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the French Republic, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani. During the meeting, bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries were reviewed. Those discussions dealt with bilateral, economic and investment issues between the two countries. The Qatari and French sides also signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the economic and financial fields between the ministries of finance in the two countries and a letter of intent between the Qatari and French ministries of culture.And last November, French deputies praised the State of Qatar, calling for a good understanding with it as a strong ally, as the Afghan crisis demonstrated. The French magazine Le Point, which at the time published a statement to these representatives, said that the State of Qatar is going through a historic political period since the last elections for the Consultative Council (Parliament), which contributes to unprecedented democratic progress in it. The statement of the French representatives described the State of Qatar as one of the distinguished partners in the region due to the growing role it plays in the regional management of crises of global importance, which necessitates supporting the unprecedented openness efforts there. In March 2019, Qatar and France signed a number of agreements in the fields of defense and security during the visit of then French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.
