FazzNoth Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 With his verbal pledge to Mississippi State over the weekend, eighth-grader CJ AuBuchon became the youngest athlete to make a college commitment in Christ School history. The Christ School eighth-grade pitcher committed to Mississippi State baseball over the weekend, becoming the youngest Greenie to ever make a college commitment. "It has been a dream of mine to play ball at Mississippi State, and today I am humbled to take that next step," AuBuchon wrote on Twitter. AuBuchon's measurables, and the scouting consensus about how he compares to his peers, help explain the Bulldogs' early interest. A 6-foot-1 left-hander, AuBuchon's fastball already reaches the 80s. He's a top-10 left-handed pitcher in the 2026 class, according to Perfect Game, and No. 1 in North Carolina. “This is a tremendous moment for [AuBuchon] and for our baseball program," Greenies coach Wesley King said in a press release. "CJ has put himself in this position because of his work ethic, grit, and focus on doing things right, on and off the field year-round. ... Our baseball staff is looking forward to continuing to help CJ improve and be his best over these next five years" An Asheville native, AuBuchon played for Canes Baseball's national team last year, perennially one of the top showcase programs in the country. Mississippi State won its first national championship last season, the program's 12th College World Series appearance and fourth since 2013.
