According to eyewitnesses, thousands of demonstrators came out in the neighborhoods of the capital, Khartoum, and the cities of Bahri (north of the capital), Omdurman (west of the capital), Madani (central) and Dongola (north), at the invitation of the resistance committees' coordinators.Citizens responded to the call to demonstrate in the cities of El Obeid in North Kordofan, Port Sudan in the Red Sea State, and Nyala in South Darfur State. The demonstrators demanded the return of democratic civilian rule, the accountability of those responsible for human rights violations and the killing of demonstrators, and the cessation of exposure to peaceful demonstrations. The streets leading to the presidential palace and the army's general headquarters were closed with concrete barriers and barbed wire, to prevent the arrival of demonstrators. The central Khartoum area also witnessed a heavy security presence in front of the sovereign ministries, vital facilities, banks and government facilities, but the authorities allowed the processions to gather in public squares outside central Khartoum. For their part, the resistance committees described these measures as meager attempts to quell the flames of the revolution and break its power. Security forces fired tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators on Al-Arbaeen Street in Omdurman, as well as near Al-Qasr Street in Khartoum. Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that injuries were recorded in the vicinity of the presidential palace in Khartoum, and tear gas canisters were fired on Al-Arbaeen Street in Omdurman against protesters who closed the street with concrete barriers. The reporter quoted demonstrators as saying that the use of violence and the killing of demonstrators would not stop them from going out against those they described as putschists until they achieved their goal with full civilian rule and accountability for those who killed protesters.
