This Thursday, December 2, marks the 28th anniversary of the death of Pablo Escobar, one of the richest drug traffickers and criminals in history. The also politician, who died at age 44 from a gunshot wound, was the founder and top leader of the Medellín Cartel. To capture him, and later assassinate him, the Government of Colombia formed the so-called Search Block, a group that tracked him down during 17 months of intense investigation.
After his death, a dozen productions have been made about Pablo Escobar in order to tell the life of him and the crimes he committed: how to orchestrate murders, drug trafficking and conspiracy against influential figures of politics or the Colombian government . Who was Pablo Escobar?

Pablo Escobar was born on December 1, 1949 in the city of Medellín, Colombia. He began his criminal life in the late 1960s, specifically with smuggling. However, in the 1980s he became involved in the production and marketing of marijuana and cocaine abroad. After that, he founded the Medellín Cartel, an organization that, at its peak, monopolized the cocaine business in the world from its production to its consumption. In addition, it controlled more than 80% of the world production of this drug and 60% of the illicit market of the same in the United States.

Pablo Escobar was charged with criminal charges such as drug trafficking, money laundering, murder, terrorism, bribery, smuggling, extortion, and political corruption. His death came on December 2, 1993, when he was found in a house in the Los Olivos neighborhood, a middle-class area of Medellín. When discovered by the intelligence units, he tried to escape through the roofs of the neighboring houses, but was killed, while escaping, from a shot to the heart.

This Netflix series tells the life of drug lord Pablo Escobar, from his days as a thief to becoming the head of a drug trafficking empire. The production has 113 episodes of 25 minutes, which tells from his childhood in Valle de Aburra until his death in 1993. However, for the international market the series was restructured into 74 episodes of 43 minutes.
