Last year F1 enjoyed its most intense final race for the title since 2016, and the first championship battle between the two teams in a decade when Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton battled for the drivers' title until the final round in Abu Dhabi, which went in the Dutchman's favour. under dramatic circumstances.

The two-legged battle has injected new blood into the sport after years of complete dominance by Mercedes, but question marks are now emerging over whether the new technical rules for 2022 will keep the two teams ahead of the rest, or will midfield teams be able to use that new era to catch up with them.

Some observers fear that the first season in the new era will increase the differences between the teams if some of them start it and are far ahead of the rest.

A publisher with a deceitful and ingenious design gave the Braun GP team dominance in the early stages of the 2009 season after a similar rule-review, while Mercedes jumped ahead with its power unit at the start of the hybrid era in 2014.

However, Brown made it clear that he would be "very surprised" if one team were to dominate the 2022 season.

"I would be very surprised if 2022 was a boring season with the new cars," he said. "I think we'll have some winners and losers and some surprises. But I'd be surprised if there is one team domination."

"We might have a team that might dominate for a little while like Bronn when they found out something in 2009, but I think with the cost cap now, the pressure can be felt on teams that have stopped developing their cars with so much resources for next season. I'd be surprised if the competition didn't get any closer." between the difference.

Brown also hopes the 2022 season will see a "3 or 4 cars" fight for the title all the way to the end, as he believes the more restrictive nature of the rules will have a positive impact on the sport.

He said, "What I hope is that we go to the final round of Abu Dhabi next season with 3 or 4 cars that can compete for the championship, I think that is the ultimate goal."

He concluded: "Last season was great, top and bottom, as I hope that with the new laws and designs for the cars, and the new aerodynamic packages, what we see now is part of what we will see in the future."
