n 3.1.2022 Minister for Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg signed a temporary order banning hunting license holders from hunting wild animals until 01.31.2022 in order to avoid the spread of bird flu.

In recent months, bird flu has spread to many farms, and a large number of cranes have died in Lake Hula, with an estimated 20% of cranes in the country.

In light of the spread of the disease among wild birds, it is assumed that it will spread among other species, including among birds allowed to be hunted in Israel and among predatory animals and birds.

The Animal Protection Act 1955 sti[CENSORED]tes that all wild animals are protected unless the Minister for Environmental Protection declares that their hunter is permitted or that they are considered offensive to humans, the environment, or a wild animal.
Article 1A of the Wild Animals Protection Regulations states the types of animals that can be hunted, including birds.
Hunting season: 1st of September to 31st of January.

Israel has joined international conventions to protect waterfowl and their habitats.
The Nature and Parks Authority's science division says the extent of bird flu could harm many birds, predators and pets.
Bird hunting may end up spreading disease in many locations.

Environmental Protection Minister Tamar Zandberg

The high mortality rate of cranes and other birds indicates a dangerous and abnormal outbreak of disease and we must act immediately to reduce contact between wild birds and humans and prevent further spread. In light of this, canceling hunting in the current season is a necessary step to stop the outbreak of the disease and preserve human and animal health. This step will prevent the spread of bird flu and will help keep fishermen healthy from dangerous and contagious diseases.

Director of the Nature and Parks Authority, Raya Shhourqi

In the past two months, bird flu was diagnosed in several farms in different regions. Although the virus is adapted to birds, it can infect other animals such as cats, weasels, pigs and, in exceptional cases, humans. I thank Minister for Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg who signed the regulations to stop the hunting season until the end of the season at the end of January 2022. The cessation of the hunting season is necessary during this period in order to prevent the spread of bird flu throughout the country.
