New Delhi: In the wake of rising coronavirus and Omicron cases across the national capital, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) decided to impose weekend curfew in the national capital. The weekend curfew will come into effect from Friday 10 PM and remain in force till Monday 5 AM. Earlier on Monday, Delhi added 4,099 new Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate jumping to 6.46 percent in the past 24 hours. Earlier on December 29, the DDMA had decided that Covid-related restrictions imposed in Delhi under the 'yellow alert' would continue in view of a low number of hospitalisations. However, as per Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), Delhi has reached the stage of Level 4 (red alert) restrictions that sti[CENSORED]tes the closure of most activities and total curfew. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has only mild symptoms. Covid reaching the CM is not a big deal, but spreading among the people is a matter of concern. We need to be extremely cautious, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain. Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting begins virtually. Speaking to Indian Express, a senior DDMA official said that 100% work from home for government and private hospitals likely be pushed in today's DDMA meeting. Besides, most of the activities are likely to be restricted or shut. After analysing and discussing all these things, DDMA will take a call on further restrictions. Restrictions under red alert are likely to be imposed in Delhi. The 'red alert', as per GRAP, comes into force after the positivity rate stays above 5 percent for two consecutive days. The meeting on Tuesday will discuss if anything more was needed to be done to check the spread of Omicron," an official source said. In the last DDMA meeting, it was decided to review the emerging situation and consider if further restrictions as per GRAP were required. The containment zones in the city have climbed to a whopping 2,008.
