Around almost 4 million households in Peru have a pet. From the most traditional such as cats and dogs, to parrots, turtles and other curious animals.

Today, the category of petshops has grown exponentially due to the increasingly responsible care that citizens have with their pets; So it is not a surprise to find businesses related to aesthetics, food, nursery and entertainment.

In dialogue with Habla Perú Habla, three guests shared their work experience in the sought-after and demanded pet care sector.

In this regard, Domenico Sánchez, a Trujillo veterinarian, commented that today there is a problem with the care that citizens give their pets, because in their eagerness to satisfy their needs they end up humanizing them with uncomfortable practices for them.

“The animal needs to be respected and many owners confuse that respect with extreme expressions of affection that are not understood by their pet. Part of animal abuse is putting clothes on dogs, for example. This is not necessary because your body tolerates climatic changes. Many owners seek to replace a lack of affection with a pet and that can generate negative behaviors in them, "he added.

For his part, Lesli Astuhuamán, pet chef, commented that it is important to take into account the diet of our pets, according to their weight and physical condition. That is why the area of food and pastry for pets is in high demand by citizens.

“Dogs and cats have a specific requirement that is not the same as that of humans. It is important that pets eat an optimal diet for their health, avoiding sugars and chemicals that are harmful. Because the pet is a member of the family, many owners want to celebrate their birthday and order pet cakes, with the assurance that the ingredients are of quality for them, "he said.

Finally, Pierina Tassara, canine stylist, commented on the needs of each pet regarding the type of cut they should wear. “There is a bad concept that in the summer dogs should be shaved, but that is not the case because the type of breed must be taken into account before making a cut. There are cases like Labradors and Siberians that should not be cut due to the condition of their breed. The canine aesthetic offers a personalized treatment; so it is important to respect these conditions, "he added.
