[Sports] Conmebol will deliver $ 1 million to its 10 national federations, including Ecuaf Fútbol, to strengthen local tournaments

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) notified this Tuesday that from 2022 a prize of $ 1'000,000 will be instituted for each member association and the president of each of them will have the power to decide which of their tournaments will have this sponsorship .

With the intention of increasing the competitiveness of local tournaments and strengthening clubs and associations, Conmebol decided to grant a sponsorship of $ 10,000,000 to federations throughout the continent.
According to the South American professional soccer entity, “each association president will have the power to divide the amount into up to two prizes and determine which of their competitions will have this important incentive for the champions. The amount will be delivered at the end of 2022 ″.

According to Fidel Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, in a panel organized by the entity he presides: “What Conmebol has decided is to sponsor each of the tournaments that its federations organize, this is a benefit and it is their exclusive decision to apply it in the tournament that we consider. We have not evaluated it yet, we have not decided it, but I think it is an open door, interesting so that we can reward any tournament that we decide and so that those tournaments become more attractive and even better ”.

The manager referred to the competitions organized by the FEF, such as minor categories, women's football and the Ecuador Cup. “Here we have a couple of tournaments outside of the Ecuadorian soccer championship like the Ecuador Cup, and that can help to give a boost and we are going to be very careful to see where we apply those awards, those sponsorships, to see how that redounds, above all , in the development of the tournaments and the clubs and we help in some way so that our tournaments gain in competitiveness and in fans ”.
Conmebol posture

In this way, Conmebol ensures that it not only aims to raise the quality of its own competitions but also to make a decisive contribution to improve the tournaments of each country and make them more attractive and competitive, awarding this award to the champions.

The decision was endorsed by the Conmebol Council meeting virtually for the last time in the year. Among other resolutions of the session, it also highlights the convening of the 75th Ordinary Congress of Conmebol for April 1, 2022, in Doha, Qatar. The date was set considering that the FIFA Congress is scheduled a day before, in the same city.

At the close of the meeting, the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, took the opportunity to make a brief summary of the year, highlighting the organization of the Conmebol Copa América in Brazil -with the triumph of the Argentine team- and of the finals of club competitions in Montevideo, Uruguay.
