Askor lml Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 As part of its electrification plan, Ford seeks to become one of the leading manufacturers of electric vehicles (EV) in the short term. Specifically by 2023, Ford is aiming to produce around 600,000 units a year, a figure that would make it the second largest EV manufacturer in the world. A model that will be key in achieving this volume of production is the F-150 Lightning, which has accumulated 200,000 reserved units before reaching distributors. In fact, being such a high number in the presale, Ford stopped accepting more advance purchases, since the delivery time exceeds three years. Initially, Ford planned to make 15,000 units per year, before increasing production to 55,000 in 2023 and 80,000 in 2024. Faced with the large volume of electric vehicle production, Ford is working with five battery suppliers around the world to have a production capacity of 240 GWh by 2030, while developing new batteries that will help reduce their costs significantly by the end of the decade.
