KIA left behind teasers and camouflaged cars, presenting the second generation of the Niro to the public for the first time, as part of the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show.

The Niro, born in 2016, has been KIA's mainstay in electrification matters and also one of the first models to take the hybrid car formula, adapting it to a crossover format. The task of the new Niro, according to the brand is "to make sustainable mobility accessible to all."

"KIA continues to take steps towards a more sustainable future and invites everyone to join the movement for a new era in mobility," said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia. "The new Niro makes it easy to lead a sustainable lifestyle, thanks to its environmentally friendly materials, advanced technology and electric powertrains, while meeting the practical needs of customers."

The HabaNiro as the main influence

 

The new Niro has been developed under the company's "United Opposites" design philosophy, complying with the "Joy from Reason" principle. It is inspired by nature not only in the design, but also in the choice of colors, materials and finishes, seeking to reflect that sustainable spirit.

Del HabaNiro was inspired by absolutely everything:

The two-level headlights, where the first level is attached to a fine grille and the lower ones have a very intricate light signature
The trapezoidal air intake at the bottom.
The wheels: the same design, but with six openings in the HabaNiro and five in the Niro 2023
The molding that emerges from the front towards the doors, was reinterpreted in the Niro, with a less enveloping style in the front, but keeping the straight section that runs along the bottom of the doors.
Most evident: the single-colored C-pillar, highlighted by fine vertical lights in a boomerang pattern, the clearest reference to the concept. It reminds us a bit of the new Toyota Aygo. This section has an aerodynamic treatment, which helps to minimize friction.

Kia Niro 2023: interior

The interior has been completely renovated, where everything looks elegant, modern, but not flashy either, using upholstery in neutral tones and minimalist concepts.

The screens of the instrument panel and the multimedia system go together and accompany a suggestive drop in design towards the passenger side.
The center console is easy to use and features a dial-type electronic control for the transmission. It is located on the wide, high-gloss black surface for a simple, modern look.
Mood lighting helps deliver a cozy atmosphere
The seats are designed to give a feeling of space, meaning they are smaller in certain key areas. That is if they have ecological upholstery, a coat rack and a lightweight structure so as not to add so much weight to the car.
Ecology is key in the Niro and KIA has applied some particular concepts to make the proposal more coherent.

The ceiling covering is made from recycled wallpaper
The seats are made of Bio PU (bio-based polyurethane) with Tencel fibers from eucalyptus leaves.
Non-BTX paint (made with a water base and does not contain benzene, toluene or xylene isomers) is used on the door panels to minimize impact on the environment and reduce waste.
