For four hours, the activist Fernando Balda was detained in Panama because he was considered a “dangerous terrorist”.

According to Balda, the migration incident last Thursday was due to a series of letters that, during Rafael Correa's government, were sent to this country to be detained.

"Correa sent letters from his government to several countries saying that if Balda passed through those countries they would arrest him claiming that he is a dangerous terrorist, for that reason when I arrived in Panama they detained me for four hours until the authorities consulted his true status and released me" , he mentioned.

Balda indicated that the Panamanian authorities confirmed that there was no judicial document, nor a valid official request from the pertinent authority for it to be detained. Only the letters.

“The Correa government had sent insistent letters and communications and that makes a file because if it sends one government to another that makes them take them seriously, in principle. But they were letters from different entities, they gave me to understand that they were from the Ministry of the Interior ”, described.

In this situation, Balda requested assistance from the Ecuadorian regime. "Once I communicate this, the Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, and the ambassador who appeared, not even five minutes have passed since they contacted the immigration authorities of Panama, and (they) apologized to me," he said.

Balda said those letters were part of the political persecution.

Balda is currently on vacation in Panama. (I)
