Askor lml Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 The giant panda bear will be classified as a species in vulnerable status and will continue under the protection plan of the Chinese state. The Chinese authorities announced that the giant panda bear was removed from the list of animals that are in danger of extinction, after verifying the increase of its po[CENSORED]tion in the country to almost 2,000 specimens. During a press conference, the head of the Department of Nature Conservation and Ecology of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Cui Shuhong, indicated that the most recent census counts a total of 1,800 pandas that live in the wild, which shows the improvement of their living conditions in their respective integrated habitats. In addition, he highlighted the efforts made by the Chinese authorities for the conservation of the giant panda in recent decades, but warned that it is a species in a vulnerable state, and remains under "the protection plan at the state level." On the other hand, he commented that the po[CENSORED]tions of other rare and endangered species have increased dramatically, as a result of the efforts used to protect biodiversity and restore ecology. Some of the species mentioned were the Siberian tiger, the leopard lemur, the Asian elephant, and the crested ibis. Last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin called the announcement to remove the giant panda from the endangered species list as "a new achievement in China's protection of biodiversity and ecological restoration." The International Union for Conservation of Nature had removed the giant panda from its list of endangered species in 2016, but the Chinese authorities kept it within this range considering that it was too early to exclude it.
