The dollar index, which measures the performance of the US currency against six other major currencies, rose 0.1 percent to 96.204, which qualifies it for a weekly gain. This would be the sixth consecutive weekly gain, and the longest streak since January 2015. The euro settled at $1.13, unchanged from the previous session, and consolidated after falling to a nearly 17-month low of $1.1186 last week. The dollar rose 0.1 percent to 113.31 against the Japanese yen. The Australian dollar fell 0.5% to a 13-month low of $0.7049, falling for the fourth consecutive session. The British pound fell 0.2 percent to $1.3274. Among emerging market currencies, the volatile Turkish lira approached an all-time low on Friday, prompting the central bank to intervene directly by selling dollars.
