The finals against ‘Bombillo’ will be played on December 5 and 12, 2021. The first leg will be played at the Banco Guayaquil stadium and the return match will be at the George Capwell.

The IDV consolidated itself as the 'Matagigantes' when in 2016 it reached the final of the Copa Libertadores others, leaving on the way, between, the Mexican Pumas and the Argentine Boca Juniors and River Plate, two of the most successful clubs on the continent. . In that season, led by the Uruguayan Pablo Repetto, the cast from the valley played the final against Atlético Nacional de Medellín.

In Quito, on July 20, 2016, the match ended 1-1 at the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium.

On the return leg, seven days later at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, ‘Verdolaga’ won 1-0 and was crowned champion of the Libertadores.

South American glory

Two years ago, on November 9, 2019, Independiente del Valle established himself as the champion of the South American Cup by winning a unique final, played at the General Pablo Rojas stadium in Asunción, to the Club Atlético Colón of Argentina.

The Ecuadorian team beat Colón de Santa Fe 3-1, an Argentine cast that copped the stands of the Paraguayan stadium with their fans. Despite that, the 'Matagigantes' was superior on the field and in the end reached the title that in Ecuador only Liga de Quito has also achieved.
