Expresiones faciales de gatos.
I don't know if it is in books, or if it has been written about much or little, I only know that it exists. I have seen it in many people who, little by little, have been consumed by grief. Their faces did not lie. Sadness, by dint of feeling lonely, had taken hold of them and had extinguished their light.

However, it is not an exclusively human ailment. Animals also suffer from it. In shelters or refuges it is very clear because they are like large hospitals where, directly or indirectly, people and animals are rehabilitated.

The first ones, the humans, put their consciences back into them. They wash their minds and leave with the idea that they did everything they could for those dogs or cats they abandoned in them. They discharge their guilt with a simple signature of resignation on the animal on a piece of paper or a written form. It is their way of saying goodbye.

For animals, however, everything is much more difficult. It is true that in the shelters there are also feral cats and stray dogs that never had an owner. They face their stays in shelters with the clear idea of escaping. For them there are no walls or fences to prevent them from dreaming of freedom.

However, most of them are homemade dogs and cats, made of pure love, who did have human families with whom they lived before entering a shelter. They lived with people to whom they gave a lot in exchange for nothing and they paid for their dedication with abandonment. They are animals who arrive at their cages wounded by sadness. It is impossible for them to separate the memories from the sorrow. That is why there are so many cats in these centres hiding in their bedrooms under blankets or towels, and dogs curled up in the corners of their cages. It's their way of crying. Make no mistake, they too are victims of depression and loneliness.
