Amazon has confirmed the support of the Matter standard through the Thread protocol in its Echo connected devices and the eero routers, which will begin to adopt it next year with the launch of the developer kit (SDK).

Matter is an open standard for the ecosystem of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as thermostats, locks, light bulbs, security cameras or speakers, which allows the flexibility and interoperability of the different virtual assistants in equipment from different manufacturers

The technology company had already announced in July that it was going to update its Echo devices to support the Matter standard, and in October, that its eero routers with the Thread protocol would also be compatible with the open standard.

This Wednesday, Amazon has officially announced on its official website the support of Matter in Echo and eero through Thread, which joins the support through WiFi, Zigbee and BLE. And he explained that Thread, an IP-based wireless protocol for communication between IoT devices, "provides a low-consumption, low-bandwidth and low-latency mesh network option."

Specifically, it has reported that the support will be present "in millions of new and existing devices" of its two product families. The release of the SDK next year will see eero Pro, eero Beacon, eero Pro 6 and eero 6, as well as Echo (4th Gen), and later to more Echo devices.
