The decision comes after the socialist government of Antonio Costa has failed to carry out the Budgets for next year.

The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced today that he will dissolve Parliament and call early elections on January 30, to get out of the open political crisis with the rejection of the Budgets for 2022.

The announcement was made in a communication to the country, after conducting a round of contacts with the main actors in the country during the last week.

The Government of the socialist António Costa, in a minority, was left alone in defending its Budget project for next year, after its former partners on the left turned their backs on it and the right also voted against it, which it has led to elections after only two years of legislature.
