Between them and their brothers over 125, there is no doubt which is the type of motorcycle that dominates the sales numbers (scooters), but ... and without telling them, what type of motorcycle is the best seller? ? Per displacement: less is more If we first analyze sales based on the displacement of the motorcycles, we will see that the smaller it is, the more it sells. It is logical, because in addition to the 125 phenomenon, it is normal that the "bigger" the motorcycle is, the higher its price and the lower its sales. Regarding the 125, note the great change in potential customers: in Spain there are more than 12 million people with a car license (who can carry a 125) compared to about 3 million people with a motorcycle license (A2 or A ), and in fact many of those cards are not "operational". Ask older people to see what license they have and you will discover many "motorists" who have never ridden on two wheels (my own mother without going any further), and it is that for many years when they got their car license they obtained the motorcycle license automatically ... Some things with others, in large numbers we have a ratio of almost 10 to 1 between the people who can drive a 125 and the motorcycles with a larger displacement. During the first half of 2021, some 41,000 motorcycles (and scooters) of up to 125 cc were sold, compared to 26,000 of the next step (up to 750 cc) and 14,000 units of more than 750 cubic centimeters. So, in large numbers, for each large displacement motorcycle two "medium" and four small ones (125) are sold in Spain. Mopeds represent a very small part since the regulations changed (15 years and license), a shame when in their day they were not only the best sellers but a perfect gateway to motorcycles (and to learn to circulate and be better drivers in the future). By type: trail and naked dominate Within the first semester of 2021, the general sales figures show a majority of scooter sales (about 40,000 registered of that type) compared to 37,000 "road" motorcycles (it is very generic to distinguish transfers) and 4,000 of field (in pure off-road principle). We have to go to the sales figures by model to be able to analyze which is the type of motorcycle that is the most sold in Spain, but it takes very little time to appreciate the two most dominant ones. Clearly our market favorites are trail and naked. In 2020, two of the three best sellers were naked: the Kawasaki Z900 and the Yamaha MT07. The third step of the "podium" was for a trail (and not a small one precisely), the BMW R 1250 GS, and if we add its sales to those of its sister Adventure (sixth in the ranking) they equal the Z900. In that 2020 ranking there are another trail and another naked in the top five, both Honda CB500 (the R and the X). And among the first ten, more trail: Yamaha Ténéré 700, Honda X-ADV (halfway between scooter and trail) or also Honda Africa Twin and NC 750 X. And among the following ten, more trail: Benelli TRK 502 o Suzuki V-Strom. It is clear that the trail is the queens of the market, with the permission of the scooters, and followed by the naked. The others, far Already behind them would be the "retro", that is, those naked with a particular style, and also the custom ones, well represented by the po[CENSORED]r Honda Rebel 500 but without more models among the best sellers, already more dispersed at the bottom of the table. . The same happens with sports cars: in their day they were the queens of the market, not only the most desired (they were sold), but those days have gone back and they have remained as very specialized motorcycles perhaps (circuit) and, therefore, minority . In fact, the best sellers are the Honda CBR 650 R and the Kawasaki Ninja 650 (which are more "sport" than "RR") and among the 125 the Yamaha R125 dominates.
