F1 will revise its rule book for next season with the introduction of a new set of technical regulations that are expected to make cars slower and are aimed at making it easier to race alongside each other.

This pressure comes as part of the championship's drive to improve the circuit presentation and reduce the number of boring races, while allowing for greater and closer competition between teams.

Drivers are starting to get a glimpse of what the new cars will be like in simulator sessions ahead of next season, with McLaren's Lando Norris describing the 2022 model as "not as great to drive as this year".

In an interview with Motorsport.com, Perez and his colleague Max Verstappen said it was too early to say what the cars would look like next year.

"Prototype testing was good, the car is just a little slower. But in the end we first have to see the real car on the track and then we'll tweak the simulator around that," Verstappen said.

"It's all still guesswork at the moment, so I don't pay too much attention to that to be honest."

Perez added that the 2022 car "doesn't look too bad" and that the work was "still at an early stage", but also pointed out how it would make everything look different compared to the current generation of cars, which are the fastest in F1 history.

"I've driven the 2022 car on the simulator a few times so far, so we'll have to wait for it to hit the track and start from that point," he said.

"But of course they are very different compared to the current cars. I think the cars we are driving today will never be seen in the history of Formula One."

"It's the best car we've ever driven, the best in the history of the championship, so everything looks bad compared to it. But I hope the new cars are fun to drive."
