German automaker Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the series production of its first all-electric truck, the Mercedes-Benz eActros, produced for heavy-duty distribution.

Production takes place at the Wörth plant in Germany, along with the traditional versions, with the first part of production similar to the previous model of the German giant truck, but the final steps on the high-voltage components take place at the all-new Future Truck Center.

The company said in a statement published by the American “insideevs” website: “Before eActros comes to the Future Truck Center to supply it with electricity, it will be flexibly manufactured on the existing assembly line along with trucks with conventional drive systems. The vehicles will be as integrated as possible and the vehicle’s basic chassis will be built on a single assembly line regardless of whether a conventional combustion engine or an electric powertrain is installed.”

The eActros is scheduled to move to the Future Truck Center, where it will be supplied with electric batteries.

Intensive preparations have been made for new production operations there in recent months, to include, among other things, the construction of a new assembly line. In addition to the high-voltage batteries, other high-voltage components will be assembled in various production steps, including the charging unit.

It forms the interface through which the vehicle is connected to the charging station once all components are assembled, and the entire system will be run at the Future Truck Center, then the truck will be ready to drive and the vehicle will be reintegrated into the normal production process for finishing and final inspection.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros was first shown in a concept version in 2016, and two years later, in 2018, the company also began prototype tests, which continue today.

The final production version was revealed on June 30 and has been available to order since October 1. The truck will be available in select European markets: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

In the second half of 2022, the company will also offer to launch a domestic version of the Mercedes-Benz Iconic, eActros LongHaul semi-long-range (500 km / 311 miles) system will follow in 2024, CATL will also provide batteries for Mercedes-Benz trucks and other Daimler truck brands .
