The first part of qualifying witnessed another accident for Valentino Rossi, as his string of disappointing performances continued towards the end of his career.

On the other hand, the contenders were fierce for the two places crossing into the second division, and unexpectedly, Luca Marini's brother Rossi was the fastest, with a record of 2:03.410 to pass with defending champion Joan Mir, a Suzuki rider.

In the second division, another youngster, Jorge Martin, stood out after he was Marquez's main rival in the second division, after the Honda rider was in the lead at the end of the first series of attempts with 2:03.209 minutes, Martin was 0.069 seconds slower than him.

On the other hand, Jack Miller's first attempts were much slower than what he managed to achieve in the third morning session.

With the riders returning to complete their last decisive attempts, Baniya flew in 2:02.781, while Marquez made a mistake on his one lap and didn't improve his time.

Banaya was comfortably ahead to secure pole for the second race in a row and keep his hopes as alive as possible in the title fight with Quartararo finishing second, but by 0.348 seconds.

But Quartararo and his Yamaha team were delighted with the result, given Panaya's pole position and Ducati's strength on the track.

Marquez ended up third in front of Martin after they failed to improve their time.

Fifth place went to Takaaki Nakagami, who beat Johann Zarko and Alex Rains.

Mir was satisfied with eighth place in front of Luca Marini, who provided a strong lap in the second section, while Miller was strangely limited to tenth, and signs of anger were evident on the Australian as he returned to the Ducati team garage after he was one of the leading candidates to compete for the pole.
