A new animal hospital has opened in the occupied West Bank, amid a growing trend among Palestinians to pet and pamper pets. The Royal Care Veterinary Hospital, owned by veterinarian Ahmed Al-Amad in the city of Nablus, is one of the few facilities in the Palestinian Territories that provides services to care for cats, dogs and other animals and receive them for accommodation while their owners are traveling.
Ahmed Al-Amad said: “Of course, this is a fully equipped veterinary hospital, its equipment is for cats and dogs, and it is located in Nablus. The idea of this project came out due to the need to conduct advanced examinations of animals, to reach a correct diagnosis and to provide the necessary treatments for the animals.”
Owning pets has become more common in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in recent years, as some Palestinian supermarkets now have sections dedicated to animal food and supplies. Al-Amad said: “The project was carried out based on the increased need in the market for such a project.”
He added that this is a private project, but that it is ready to receive stray animals that need medical services.
Qais Abu Samra, a pet owner who frequents the hospital, said: "I came to the center to feed my dog. The center provides high-end services and includes everything from accessories and accommodation for the dog, in addition to surgical operations." Ahmed Al-Amad said: “We have a service for night emergencies, where we are summoned by phone call and we go directly to the center in the event of night emergencies.
