The Prosecutor's Office requested for the individual four years in prison and a perpetual ban on having animals.

The Eighth Guarantee Court of Santiago declared this Friday as guilty of animal abuse a man who kept 70 dogs, 3 cats and 7 birds in precarious conditions in the commune of Providencia.

The situation became known on July 5, 2019, when this large number of animals were found in a private home with visual problems, dehydrated, locked in a small space and living in an intense stench.

At the trial, the prosecutor Álvaro Pérez, head of the Ñuñoa-Providencia Local Prosecutor's Office, requested four years of effective jail for this subject and the perpetual disqualification from having animals; while the plaintiff lawyer José Ignacio Binfa requested seven years and 183 days in jail, adding a fine of 30 UTM.

 

 

According to the ruling, most of these canines "were locked in cages, with feces and urine in cages and on the floor of the building, all the canines and felines in overcrowded conditions, extreme unsanitary conditions, absence of water to drink, lack of food. , untreated injuries ".

Regarding the current situation of these animals, the Donde La Mery Foundation in Melipilla, which has 27 of the dogs that suffered this abuse, indicated to Las Últimas Noticias that they have carried out "an integral work, it is not only physical recovery."

In addition, they point out that they are waiting for this convicted person to legally lose his rights as the owner of these animals, to proceed to give them up for adoption.

On September 20, the court will report the penalty of this convicted person for the crime of animal abuse.
