[Politics] Ecuadorians announce protest against political crisis in Quito

About 50 social organizations ask the Constitutional Court for a response to the political crisis in Quito. Different social sectors announced a demonstration for this Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT) in the capital of Ecuador in the face of the political crisis that the Quito Mayor's Office is experiencing, led by Mayor Jorge Yunda.

 

Sectors both for and against the mayor will participate in the mobilizations called. Some transport unions announced that they will march to enforce the votes cast in the 2019 elections, won by Yunda to lead the Metropolitan Council. “We are going to ask that democracy be respected. Ecuador is a constitutional state of rights, ”said the president of the Pichincha Land Transport Federation and manager of the Quito Taxi Drivers Union, Carlos Brunis. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises of Pichicha (Capeipi) called for a concentration against the mayor, who was removed by the majority of the Metropolitan Council last June, and restored to office a short time ago by a court. Capeipi announced in a statement that the mobilization responds to the serious political and institutional crisis that exists in the city. According to the document, they will go to the headquarters of the Constitutional Court to request that the court settle the legal conflict by the Mayor's Office of Quito, which exists between the mayor and the councilor Santiago Guarderas, who assumed office for about ten days and consider that he is still in the position.

 

Guarderas, for his part, presented this Tuesday an extraordinary protection action before the Constitutional Court of Ecuador. "We have to give #Quito back its dignity," the politician posted on his social networks.
