We have to admit that after having played the third chapter of Batman: The Telltale Series, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to understand the problems that its developers are having to make this episodic game a memorable experience worthy of the Dark Knight.

Batman: The Telltale Series - Episode 3: New World Order
By "logic", the combination of the narrative talent that Telltale has shown to have when it comes to creating good stories, building charismatic characters and writing great dialogue, with the enormous potential that such an iconic hero has and with as many possibilities as Batman, should result in something unique and at the height of the Bat Man, but the sad reality is that having already passed the halfway point of the season, things do not seem to be getting better.

As you can imagine, the "gameplay" is the same as always, that is, see how the story progresses through videos while we make decisions and choose our dialogue options. Obviously, the action scenes are developed again by means of anodyne QTE in which we have to press the buttons that are indicated to us, sequences that despite being well choreographed and being very showy in their approach do not contribute anything at the playable level or offer a challenge. any.

Cobblepot seguirá inmiscuyéndose en nuestros asuntos.
Therefore, the script remains the main axis that underpins the entire appeal of the game. However, New World Order maintains the slow pace seen in its predecessors. Throughout the scarce hour and a quarter that it lasts we will see how the plot barely progresses until the final minute, at which time there is a surprising and unexpected plot twist (by far, the best of the chapter) that will leave us with a lot of desire to know what is going to happen next, as it poses a very promising new scenario for the remainder of the season.

The rest of the episode is simply limited to putting good old Bruce Wayne in a delicate and frustrating situation, to delve into the relationship between him and Catwoman, and to show us the beginning of Harvey's descent into madness (somewhat accelerated in our opinion). Dent to turn him into the villain we all know he will end up being.

As we say, only a moment in the middle of the episode and especially the end they advance the argument, so a little more rhythm is missed. In addition, the type of situations that we will see and the relationships that occur between the characters we have already seen many times in other stories of the Dark Knight, which takes away some interest.

This probably wouldn't be such a problem (after all, the dialogues are very expertly written and easily enjoyed) if it weren't for Telltale's worrying tendency to make its projects less interactive every time. In this chapter we have reached a point where we have felt like mere spectators without voice or vote, since any decision we made always ended up having the same result as a consequence, removing any type of emotion and tension from supposedly important and decisive moments. .

Decisiones tan aparentemente importantes como decidir el lugar al que queremos ir no lo son tanto.

Do you want to hide so they don't see you? Anyway, a cat will appear and reveal your position. Do you decide to go against an order that someone gives you? Relax, because something will happen right next so that it does not have any kind of importance. This is the trend throughout the episode, so in the end we will end up choosing our responses mechanically and without worrying too much about the possible and non-existent consequences (hopefully, perhaps in the two remaining episodes we will notice their impact, although we doubt) that our choices may entail.

It is a real shame, since because of this the title has a really bad time when it comes to getting involved in its history, feeling more like a movie and less game than ever. Yes, the previous Telltale games were also somewhat tricky in this sense, but they managed to create that false feeling of being the protagonists and they knew how to put us between our back and the wall so that we suffered each and every one of our decisions with a series of answers which used to consist of opting for the option that we considered "least bad".

What we did like a lot is to re-enjoy the multitude of winks and references that are made to the character's comics, giving new explanations to things we thought we knew, introducing the occasional classic character and telling us little details such as the origin of the Batseñal.

Comprobaremos de primera mano de lo que es capaz este nuevo y misterioso villano en una de las mejores escenas de acción del juego.

We will see first-hand what this new and mysterious villain is capable of in one of the best action scenes of the game.
Graphically, there is not much more to add to what we already told you in the analysis that we dedicated to its first two episodes: bad animations that tarnish the moments of action (although these leave us a couple of images in particular that are pure Batman), tremendously basic modeling, highly improvable textures, and uneven performance. The positive part is put back in its artistic section, very successful and with very good and recognizable designs.

Finally, from the sound, to say that the soundtrack is once again purely environmental (in fact, many songs that we could hear in its predecessors are reused) and it adapts very well to what we see on the screen, although it still lacks a bit more variety . The effects are simply correct and the English dubbing is, to say the least, outstanding, thanks to its performances of unquestionable quality. The texts are kept in Spanish with that strange mixture between the names of the Latin and Spanish versions.

Conclusions

Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 3 - New World Order leaves us with a great final twist with which we are presented with a new and very interesting scenario for the last two chapters, but that beyond that does not contribute much to the general plot, with a very slow development and in which almost nothing happens. In addition, the decisions we have to make are purely anecdotal, reducing our role to that of mere spectators and removing much of the excitement and appeal that Telltale titles often display.

Luckily, the fourth episode promises to be really exciting judging by how little we have been able to see in the brief preview that has been included before the credits, so we only have to cross our fingers and activate the Batsignal for the Bat Man to return. coming with more force than ever.
