Audi RS4 (B9) 2020

The Audi RS 4 has been in the range for some time now, while the current generation was presented in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with marketing in stride. A fourth version which then made a real leap forward on the aesthetic level, and which also took the opportunity to increase the power of its engine, a twin-turbo V6 then developing no less than 450 horsepower. In 2019, the sportswoman with the rings underwent a slight restyling, focusing mainly on the front end, which had become much more aggressive and was then inspired by the RS 6 Avant. As for the characteristics, they remained unchanged, with a peak torque still at 600 Nm, enough to achieve 0 to 100 km / h in only 4.1 seconds. But now the Ingolstadt sportswoman is starting to get older, and we are starting to talk about her renewal, which should take place in the years to come.

So far, little is known about this next generation, although a prototype has yet to be seen by spy photographers, to whom nothing is usually overlooked. But already, rumors are rife on the engine that will equip the sports car, which should unsurprisingly pass through the electrification box, in order to better meet the demands of European leaders in terms of polluting emissions. And it seems that our British colleagues at Autocar are already well informed on the subject, saying that two versions of the Audi RS 4 will be offered to customers. The first will retain the current version of the 2.9-liter twin-turbo petrol V6, to which an electric motor will be added, thus undoubtedly allowing the symbolic bar of 500 horsepower to be reached. The sports car will then be rechargeable, but it will still be necessary to wait before knowing precisely the technical data, which will be detailed during the presentation of this future generation.

A zero-emission version

But that's not all, because it is also rumored that another version of the sports car would be in the boxes, a completely new variation since it would this time be powered by a 100% electric motor. A great first for this variant, which would then be based on the PPE platform developed in partnership with Porsche, already fitted to the Taycan. This RS 4 e-tron, whose name could change, however, should not take the form of a station wagon but could rather look like a sedan, which would then be located under the Audi e-tron GT within the range. . If nothing has yet been confirmed, our English colleagues are already talking about a maximum power of around 475 hp.

A standard version will also be marketed, the Audi A4 e-tron, which will be positioned below the A6 e-tron. It should then compete head-on with the BMW i4 and other Tesla Model 3. Thermal variations would also be planned, for the very last time, while the sedan could become purely electric in a few years.
