2021 Ford Ranger Tremor Video Review: MotorTrend Buyer's Guide

The bite-size truck comes well equipped with a decent price.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is ready to shake things up in the compact truck segment with its standard hybrid engine, unibody construction, and small size. Available in XL, XLT and Lariat trims, the Maverick can be optioned with a handful of packages that change its aesthetic and capability. The 2022 Ford Maverick First Edition adds a few details which differentiate it from other Mavericks. For starters, the First Edition is based on the Lariat Luxury package, but it adds a black roof and mirror caps, "First Edition" decals on the sides of the bed and hood, a moonroof and a tonneau cover. Depending on the engine, the First Edition comes with 18-inch wheels and all-season tires for the 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain, or 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires with the 2.0-liter gas version.

The package costs $ 1,495, and while it doesn't do much to visually differentiate it from the other models, customers get to pick between 11 paint colors — three of which are exclusive to the First Edition. Rapid Red, Carbonized Gray and Area 51 are limited to the First Edition only, and the latter is our favorite, as its similar to the one found in the Ford Bronco First Edition. Given that the First Edition is based on the well-equipped Lariat trim, customers will get almost every option available. That means the spray-in bedliner, a 400W inverter, the B&O premium audio system with eight speakers, and the 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system are all included.

A front-drive First Edition Maverick we built using Ford's online configurator came out to $ 33,005 — a great value despite all that fancy equipment.

We look forward to driving the 2022 Ford Maverick in the next few months.
