Warlock- Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-internacional-57754879 Authorities in Miami announced last Wednesday, July 7, the conclusion of the search for survivors among the rubble of the building that collapsed a few weeks ago in the city of Surfside, north of the city of Miami Beach. The mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Levine Cava, indicated this Monday that, with the latest findings, the total of confirmed deaths amounts to 94. Another 22 people are still missing, two weeks after the Champlain Towers South collapse. "We made the extremely difficult decision to transition from search and rescue to recovery [of bodies]," Levine Cava said Wednesday of last week. The mayor and rescuers were visibly emotional when they observed a minute of silence for the deceased. The 12-story building partially collapsed in the early morning of June 24. More than 150 people had been reported missing in the first hours after the collapse. In recent days, rescuers have had greater access to the different areas of the collapse, after the rest of the condominium that was still standing was demolished on Sunday, since it represented a risk for emergency teams. Levine Cava said Wednesday that experts have "exhausted all options" to rescue survivors, which was notified to families who lost loved ones in the landslide. Many were devastated when notified of the decision made by the authorities, the mayor acknowledged. "Nothing we do can bring those who lost to them, but we will do everything in our power to identify all the victims and offer closure to families in this time of unimaginable pain," he said.
