In various countries of the world, rice is the main component of the daily diet of the po[CENSORED]tion, so some recommendations must be taken into account so that the consumption of this important food is safe and healthy.

According to a publication of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), rice provides about 20 percent of the world's dietary energy supply. Besides that it is also a good source of thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and fiber.

However, despite the nutritional contributions that it can generate to the body, is it advisable to consume it daily? Nutritionist Iara Armijos affirms that "there is no problem in eating rice every day, the important thing is the amount we consume and what we complement our plate with."

The specialist points out that when there is an excess of carbohydrates in meals is when health problems begin to appear. So it is best not to combine several carbohydrates in one dish.

Brown or white rice, which provides more benefits?
In supermarkets it is possible to find mainly two options of rice: brown and white. When buying, the question of which one to buy may arise, thinking about the properties of each one.

Armijos indicates that the whole grain gives us a greater contribution of fiber, which is beneficial for our health. "By including more fiber helps us in the intestinal transit and gives us greater satiety, so we are going to stay full for a longer time."
He adds that if we can replace white rice with brown rice it would be ideal, however, it is not always necessary, and that everything will depend on the complete diet of the patient.

When does rice get unhealthy?
Rice is a very versatile carbohydrate that can be consumed from a young age as it gives us energy, says the expert. We can consume it with vegetables to give it a greater contribution of fiber, vitamins and minerals, for example rice with peppers, parsley, cauliflower or with broccoli.

The specialist mentioned before that rice becomes harmful when it is combined with other carbohydrates, but also points out that it is no longer healthy when it is combined with other not very beneficial ingredients, for example, when milk cream is added to it, sausages or vegetable oils, "since we are including trans / saturated fats."

In any case, if the person definitely wants to banish rice from their diet, it can be replaced by other foods. "Rice can be replaced by any other carbohydrate, preferably complex, such as grains (lentils, chickpeas, lupine, etc.), tubers such as potatoes, cassava, green, sweet potatoes or by cereals such as oats, corn, quinoa ”Says Armijos.
