Koke says it was “an honour” to get to 50 caps with Spain against Portugal in the friendly draw on Friday at the Wanda Metropolitano, his club’s home and he wants to become a Euro 2020 champion this summer.

“It’s a huge honour to get to this number, I hope there are many more to come,” said Koke, the Atletico Madrid midfielder, who was presented with a commemorative shirt by president Luis Rubiales.

Koke will be Spain’s third captain at the Euros, picked to be so by Luis Enrique.

“It was a pity not to beat Portugal, but the team made a big effort, a great game and in terms of the Euros we’re going to do something good. I have it in my head that we can be champions.”
