Feared by terrorists as "bearded troopers" because of their disguises in beard-loving civilian areas, Marcos (Marine Commandos), is a special operations unit of the Indian Navy. Even though it was formed long after the special forces of other countries became active, Marcos cannot be underestimated. His lunge was worth counting. Not only that, but his rigorous training selection makes anyone shudder.

Early History and Operations Development
The initiation of the formation of Marcos began since the India-Pakistan war in 1971, where India began to pioneer a special amphibious force. During the years of the pilot phase, in April 1986, the Indian Navy began planning it seriously. Three Indian officers were then sent on a rigorous training schedule with the US Navy SEALs and the British Special Air Service. After absorbing all the knowledge, these officers then formed the first core of the special forces called the Marine Commando Force (MSF). This force later changed to Marine Commandos (Marcos) in February 1987, operating from the naval base in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Kochi and Port Blair.

Although initially made specifically for maritime operations, various operational needs made Marcos spread its wings. Marcos' role extends to being required to cope with operations on the ground, from rescuing hostages to counter-terrorism acts. However, maritime operations in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly via the Jhelum River and Lake Wular, remain Marcos' specialty, given the importance of the area. Marcos' reputation was maintained from the start, and for two decades it has hardly been tarnished. Making an army with the nickname Magarmach (crocodile) is one of the best elite troops in the world.

Undercover troops who are clever in disguise
Marcos, known as a closed elite troop, claims only two thousand personnel. But real power is clearly being kept secret to the Indian military. Some of the operations that have used Marcos's services include Operation Cactus in 1988, where Marcos defended the democratic government of the then President of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, from the Sri Lankan militant coup. Marcos also carried out several operations, including Operation Pawan, Rahat, and Operation Black Tornado. Several hostage release and counter terrorism operations were also carried out by Marcos in conflicted areas. In fighting terrorists, Marcos was known to be great at disguise. In fact, the appearance of this troop was very similar to that of civil society. The terrorists were overwhelmed by the fact that the Marcos members were indistinguishable from the local po[CENSORED]tion. In disguise, attacks are usually carried out slowly, then killing the enemy from the inside until they run out nothing. While conducting operations, Marcos is often assisted by Westland WS-61 Sea King transport helicopters, Chetak helicopters and submarines. These vehicles serve to launch these troops, which are usually immediately equipped with special war equipment.

"Hell Week" Strict Selection
All Marcos personnel are male, and are hand-picked from the Indian Navy. The age of prospective members is required to be at the beginning of 20 years. British and American troops usually assist in initial selection and training. High-level physical training is a test that prospective Marcos members must undergo. Known as the "Hell Week" process. The impact is lack of sleep and intense physical exhaustion. In addition, for months, recruits had to master the tactical martial art barehanded. However, many recruits failed the selection called "Crawling Dead." They were required to crawl 800 meters through a thigh-high puddle of grass. This test is quite heavy because it tests the strength of the leg and hand muscles at the same time. Because Marcos specializes in diving, prospective members of course must be able to pass the extreme diving selection, swimming underwater. They are required to be safe, heading for the beach, which is in hostile conditions.
