Sharks are known as wild and creepy fish. Many people feel afraid when they have to deal with sharks, especially because these fish are known to attack humans.

The great white shark is one of the most dangerous shark species and is feared by humans. Even though it has a scary impression, not all sharks like to attack humans. Only a few species are reported to have carried out attacks. So, what is the main reason sharks attack humans?Quoting from NOAA's National Ocean Service, sharks can attack humans because they are curious or confused about what other living things are doing, in this case humans. For example, when humans are swimming or splashing water in the sea, sharks have an instinct to investigate what humans are doing. Sometimes this leads to a sudden and accidental shark attack.Apart from being curious and wanting to investigate, there are still a number of other reasons that are considered plausible answers to why sharks like to attack humans. What are some of them?

Misidentifying prey

Sharks can attack humans by mistaking their prey. When in the water, human movements that are swimming can be mistaken for bait fish that will be preyed upon. Because they misidentify their prey, the shark will attack suddenly from below. So as to produce a powerful and deadly bite. This bite can cause humans and their prey to bleed when bitten by the sharp teeth of a shark. Researchers reveal that in some cases, great white sharks who are still teenagers also have the potential to carry out attacks on humans. Because to train their predatory or hunting abilities, it is the same as a young lion who is practicing hunting.

Mechanosensory system
Quoted from the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), sharks have a mechanosensory system in their mouths that can help these fish analyze the value of their prey. This system helps sharks learn more about the bite of their prey. Shark gums and teeth are very sensitive, so they can measure the fat content of prey that they think is potential. Researchers estimate that sharks would rather guess whether humans are suitable for food than decide to eat them.

Sharks, the main predator in the sea
As the main and dominant predator in the sea, sharks have no fear and tend to like to dominate the oceans. Sharks do not like it if their main prey is taken by fellow sharks or other living things. Sharks prefer to attack their opponents, in this case fellow sharks or other living creatures, to defend their main food source. This is a natural instinct for sharks because they do not want competition or competition for food sources. Sharks are often described as fish that like to attack and bite humans, and even become a frightening threat at sea. However, actually humans are the biggest threat to this fish po[CENSORED]tion.Humans like to hunt sharks for meat, skins, fins and internal organs to be processed into various products such as shark fin soup, pekumas and skins. If shark hunting continues and goes out of control, it is feared that this fish po[CENSORED]tion will be threatened with extinction.
